Mark Your Calendar: “CITY OF CHAMPIONS: Advocates, Activists, and Change-makers” presented at Fort Edmonton Park’s Capital Theatre, August 9, 2026.

Tom will be presenting one of his most relevant storytelling sessions this summer at Fort Edmonton. This in-person presentation is organized by the University of Alberta Alumni Society. It is part of their “Campus in the Community: Places, Faces & Spaces of Edmonton’s Past” event.

You should come! Attendance is free with admission to Fort Edmonton Park.

If you can’t come, or if you enjoy it, you can book me to do this presentation online.

CITY OF CHAMPIONS: Advocates, Activists, and Change-makers.

Length: 1 hour to 1.5hours.       Recommended audience: 3-30 persons
Delivered via: Zoom; Google Meets; in person.

From fur traders’ demands to suffragists’ demonstrations, Edmonton has been home to champions, advocates, and activists for hundreds of years. Hear stories of those who questioned, pushed, demanded, and strove – sometimes even for causes we might shrink from today. Leave inspired to take action yourself – it’s the most Edmonton thing you can do.

I’ll also be presenting that morning at the Capitol Theatre on a lighter tone:

SAY WHAT? Eight Unbelievable Stories of Edmonton’s Past

Length: 1 hour.       Recommended audience: 3-30 persons

Some bits of history are just so bizarre, you can’t believe they actually happened. Take a journey through nine ridiculous stories and, in the end, guess which one of them is a fake. Truth is stranger than fiction!
