Clio’s Armada: In the News

Hōkūleʻa and its sister vessel Hikianalia arrived in Aotearoa/New Zealand this week – specifically they made landfall at Waitangi. Here, the great Hawaiian vessel that revived Polynesian ocean voyaging in the 1970s, was greeted by Ngātokimatawhaorua, which in the 1930s revived Maori traditional waka building.

I profiled each of these vessels in my Clio’s Armada project and this is a thrill. It only makes me wish I still lived in Aotearoa and could have travelled to see it with my own eyes!
